Tracksters take fourth at conference |
Sophomore Aaron Bachman won the pole vault and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles to finish All Conference in two events at the West Central Conference North meet at Long Prairie on Thursday. Bachman was the only Bulldog to earn All Conference honors as the team finished fifth. LPGE edged St. Cloud Cathedral 185-175 for the conference title. Last year, Cathedral ended the Dogs' three-year string of conference titles by beating the Dogs in Paynesville. Bachman repeated as an All Conference performer in the pole vault. Last year, he placed second by clearing 11'; this year, he won the event by clearing 11' 6". He also was second in the 100-meter hurdles, beating senior teammate Scott Millner, who finished third, just missing All Conference honors. Bachman also placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. "I'm very proud of Aaron Bachman, who has approached practice and the meet with determination," said coach Darrel Carstens. "He had a great day." Sophomore Aaron Bachman earned All Conference honors in two events last week: winning the pole vault and taking second in the 100-meter hurdles. He earned All Conference honors for the second time. Other than relays, the Dogs' only other top five finish was by senior Chad Wyffels, who finished fourth in the 400-meter run. Senior Derek Burris placed individually in two events, finishing sixth in the shot put and eighth in the discus. "We started the day with great performances in the high hurdles and pole vault and then it went drastically down," said Carstens. "The team has not performed to their level of abilities. We were very capable of a third place finish. With subsections this week, we will hopefully see their inner desire to move on to sections." On Wednesday, May 26, the Dogs competed in subsections at Annandale with the top four in each event advancing to sections, which will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at St. John's University.
