Girls take third in final WCC meet |
The BulldogsÕ battled sweltering heat on Monday, May 14, when they played in their last conference match of the season at Albany. Although the temperatures were in the 80s and the humidity was high, the girls still managed to finish third, their best placing in a conference meet this season. Leading the Bulldogs was ninth grader Amanda Glenz, who shot a 46. She had the seventh best score at the meet. Junior Maria Janotta fired a round of 50 for the Bulldogs in their final conference meet. The second Bulldog was Sally Heitke with 48. Following close behind were Jena Spaulding with a 49 and Maria Janotta with a 50. The girlsÕ played the best they had as a team all season, shooting a 193. The girlsÕ tied with Cathedral at 193, and took third on a tie-breaker. Conference team and individual awards were given out after the match. Albany won the conference team title, with Sauk Centre in second place. Cathedral and Litchfield tied for third. Paynesville came in fifth place, followed by Long Prairie-Grey Eagle and Melrose. Jackie Beste, a junior from Sauk Centre, won the individual title. Subsection competition was held at the Little Crow Golf Course between Spicer and New London on Monday. Scores will appear in next weekÕs issue of the Press. The top two teams and top ten individuals at subsections will advance to the section meet at Rich-Spring Golf Course between Richmond and Cold Spring on Tuesday, May 29. Section play starts at noon.
