The team was missing several athletes due to conflicts because this meet wasn't originally on the track schedule.
The Bulldogs still had plenty of good performances, though. The 3,200-meter relay team of Clayton Lang, Eric Korman, Travis Flanders, and Dan Pearson took first place by nearly 40 seconds. Lang also ran well in the 800-meter run, winning that as well.
Ryan Whitcomb took second place in the triple jump and third in the long jump.
Chad Wyffles jumped into the 300-meter hurdle race and found himself a good spot. Wyffles took third in the race and will be in both hurdle races at the conference meet.
Ryan Flanders had the best 1,600-meter time of his life at the Melrose meet. Running a 4:42, he took second place. His teammate Dan Pearson was right behind him in third. Pearson also took second in the 3,200-meter run. Jesse Rien was fourth in the mile and fifth in the two mile.
Troy Fuchs stepped up in the pole vault and took third place.
The Bulldogs, despite missing some athletes, took fourth overall.
The Bulldogs compete in the conference meet at Melrose on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Benson meet
The Bulldogs traveled to Benson on Tuesday, May 8, to take on one of the toughest teams in the state, Montevideo. They proved to be a big challenge for the Bulldogs because of the strength they had in every single event, especially throwing.
The Dogs had some great perfomances to finish second, 70 points behind Montevideo.
Steve Mages had an excellent day in the hurdles, winning both races with personal best times in each. For his first year out for track, he is really coming on strong.
Clayton Lang won the 1,600-meter run and took third in the 800-meter run. Dan Pearson ran personal-best times in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. He took third and second respectively in those two races.
Nic Glenz took second in the pole vault competition. He nearly tied his personal best vault but slightly hit the bar with his arms on the way down and settled for 11' 6".
Ryan Whitcomb won the long jump and took third in the triple jump.
Sprinter Adam Schaefer pulled his hamstring during the 100-meter dash on Tuesday. His return is questionable, and he will be sorely missed in his individual events and the 400-meter relay.
