The Bulldogs softball team lost 9-1 to Litchfield on Thursday, after giving up eight runs in the first two innings of the game. Paynesville committed three fatal errors compared to Litchfield's perfect game with no errors. The Dragons scored four runs in the first inning, as well as four in the second inning to take an early 8-0 lead. After the second inning, the Bulldogs held the Dragons to only one more run in the game. Senior Lisa Hemingson pitched two innings and scored Paynesville's only run in their 9-1 loss to Litchfield. Senior Laurie Barten, senior Lisa Hemingson, senior Heather Roos, senior Amy Buermann, and junior Ann Stalboerger all supplied hits for the Bulldogs. Hemingson scored the lone run for Paynesville in the fourth, driven home by Stalboerger. The Bulldogs showed some tough defense in the fourth inning when senior third basemen Kelli Heinen made a diving catch to get the first out of the inning. Ninth grader Kim Hess then cleanly fielded a hard-hit ball and threw the runner out at first. The third out was a strikeout. "Right now we just need to keep our heads up. We have one week left to put it all together and get ready for the playoffs," said Hemingson, a co-captain. The Bulldogs travelled to Sauk Centre on Monday, May 13. They will host Albany in a rescheduled game on Thursday and will also host ACGC on Friday. Both games start at 4:30 p.m. Subsection playoff games start next week.
