Boys take fifth at Litchfield |
The Bulldogs boys' golf team took fifth place on Thursday in Litchfield for their highest finish in a WCC North meet this season. In windy conditions, the Bulldogs beat St. Cloud Cathedral and Melrose to finish fifth, the first time in two seasons that the boys' team has not finished last in a conference meet. Paynesville's total was 186, edging Cathedral (188) and Melrose (189). Freshman Mitchell Mackedanz (pictured at right) led the way with a round of 44. Senior Adam Rafferty added a 46, junior Justin Hartfiel had 47, and senior Nathan Glenz finished the scoring with a 49. Long Prairie-Grey Eagle won the meet with a four-man total of 164, including 39 by medalist Ryan Steiner. This week, the boys played their last conference meet at Long Prairie on Monday, May 13. Their next meet will be subsections at Becker on Wednesday, May 22, at 8:30 a.m.

Paynesville meet
Glenz tied for sixth individually, as seven of the 49 golfers recorded rounds in the 30s on the front nine at Koronis Hills. The Bulldogs tied their season-low for team score with 178 but finished in seventh. Mackedanz added a round of 42 for Paynesville. Hartfiel carded a 48, and Rafferty had a round of 49. Albany - led by medalist Dan Hills - had four players shoot rounds in the 30s and won the meet with a total of 146, averaging 36.5 strokes for its top four players. The Huskies won the meet by 20 strokes over LPGE and Litchfield.

Sauk Centre meet
Glenz led the Bulldogs with rounds of 44 and 47 for an 18-hole total of 91. Savage shot 96, Rafferty shot 98, and Hartfiel shot 102. The Dogs' team total was 387.
