Bulldogs place third at conference meets again |
The Paynesville girls' golf team kept its season-long pace in the West Central Conference North, finishing third at two conference meets, including their home meet at Koronis Hills on Friday. The Bulldogs have finished third in three conference meets and second once and are solidly in third place in the season standings, trailing Albany and Sauk Centre, who each won one meet last week. On Friday, Albany won the meet at Koronis Hills, beating Sauk Centre by four strokes. The Huskies were led by medalist Lindsey Wellenstein, who shot 42 on the par-36 front nine at Koronis Hills in sunny conditions. Junior Amanda Glenz fired rounds of 50 and 51 last week to help the girls' golf team take third at two conference meets. Junior Heather Fuchs led the Dogs with a round of 46, tying for third individually. Junior Jena Spaulding was next for the Bulldogs with a round of 50, which tied for tenth individually. Junior Amanda Glenz shot 51, and ninth grader Amber Jensen shot 53 to complete the Bulldogs' team score. At Long Prairie, on Tuesday, April 29, the Bulldogs finished two strokes behind Albany, 208-210, in third place. Sauk Centre won this meet with a team total of 196. Wellenstein and Jenna Schurman of Sauk Centre shared medalist honors with rounds of 44. Jensen finished fifth individually with a round of 50, and Fuchs and Glenz tied for sixth individually with rounds of 51. Junior Brittany Caldwell completed the Dogs' team score with a round of 58. This week, the Dogs will play in an invitational at Litchfield on Friday, May 9. They also will play in another conference meet at Melrose on Monday, May 12.
