Sauk Centre 4

By Michael Pauly Regal won 6-4 over Sauk Centre in Regal Sunday for their second win of the season.

Regal took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Mike Tangen hit a solo home run.

Sauk Centre made the score 2-1 with a two-run home run by Paul Kane in the top of the third inning.

In the fifth inning, Regal took the lead for good scoring three runs. Mike Beier singled and scored on a wild pitch, and an error. Jeff Deming hit a two-run home run into the wind for the second and third runs of the inning. The score at the end of five was Regal 4, Sauk Centre 2.

In the sixth inning, Sauk Centre scored one run when Regal pitching gave up four walks.

Regal answered with a run of their own in the sixth when Brad Lieser walked and advanced on a wild pitch, an infield out, and scored on a single by Dave Oehrlein. This made the score 5-3 in favor of Regal.

Regal made the score 6-3 in the seventh inning when Mike Tangen walked, stole second, and went to third on a fly out. On the throw to get Tangen at third base, the ball was thrown past the third baseman and went into the Sauk Centre dugout, scoring Tangen.

Sauk plated one run in the eighth inning with a solo home run by Ben Dirkes, making the final score 6-4 in favor of Regal.

Mike Beier started for Regal and got the win. Dave Oehrlein relieved in the sixth and got the save.

Dave Oehrlein was the only Regal player to get more than one hit; he was 2-4 with an RBI. Mike Tangen and Jeff Deming were each 1-3 with a home run.

Regal will next host Roscoe on Saturday, May 8, for a 1 p.m. game and will travel to New London-Spicer on Sunday for a 1:30 p.m. game.

Melrose 19
Paynesville 3

The Pirates suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Melrose Sunday.

Melrose had four-run rallies in the third and fourth innings before scoring nine in the fifth. The host Black Sox won by the ten-run rule in five innings 19-3.

The Black Sox had 16 hits and were aided by five Paynesville errors. Keith Langer was two for five with a double and home run for Melrose. Nathan Hess and Chad Hess each had two hits including a homer. Brian Hunt had three hits for the Black Sox.

Scott Mueller had a double for Paynesville in his only at bat.

David Hemmesch started on the hill for the Pirates and went four innings. Jeremy Reiter, Chris Stanley and Scott Mueller pitched in relief for Paynesville. Catching was Dan Hoey.

For Melrose, Eric Meyer earned the victory with six innings of work. Jason Terway pitched the last inning, and Chad Hess did the catching.

Both teams evened their league records at 1-1.

Roscoe 25
Greenwald 10

The Roscoe Rangers rode a 22-hit attack to a 25-10 victory over visiting Greenwald Sunday.

The Rangers allowed four runs in the top of the first, but scored five in the second to take the lead for good.

The fireworks started in the fourth inning. Russ Schaefer was hit by a pitch and Chris VanderBeek singled before Brent Heinen hit a two-run double. Greg Heinen followed with a two-run home run, and Tony Orbeck added a solo shot.

In the fifth, Dale Mackedanz singled, and Schaefer hit a two-run home run.

In the sixth, the Rangers seven-run rally was capped by Tony OrbeckÕs three-run blast.

Todd Leyendecker hit a three-run home run in the seventh, and Brent Heinen stroked RoscoeÕs last home run, an inside-the-park round tripper in the seventh as well.

Leading hitters for Roscoe were Brent Heinen and Tony Orbeck with three hits apiece. Rangers with two hits were Rick Mackedanz, Lee Schleper, Jeff Welle, Dale Mackedanz, Russ Schaefer, and Todd Leyendecker.

Orbeck had six RBIs, Leyendecker and Brent Heinen had four apiece, and Greg Heinen and Schaefer each had three.

Brent Heinen also scored four runs. Schleper and Welle scored three each.

Schaefer earned the pitching victory as Roscoe raised its league record to 2-1. Greg Heinen and Jeff Welle pitched in relief. Mike Heinen caught.

For Greenwald, Mike Van Beck had three hits and three RBIs. Troy Frieler and Dave Lensing each had two hits and scored three runs.

Keith Studer, Doug Welle, Ray Lensing, and Rick Buerman pitched, and Dave Lensing caught.

Roscoe plays an exhibition game at Regal on Saturday at 1 p.m. On Sunday, they host Richmond at 1:30 p.m.

Paynesville 5
Sauk Rapids 3

The Pirates earned their second win of the season with an exhibition victory over Sauk Rapids on Saturday.

In seven innings in Paynesville, the Pirates won 5-3.

Shannon Olmscheid pitched five innings and earned the victory. Jeremy Reiter and Chris Stanley pitched in relief for Paynesville. Dan Hoey caught.

At the plate, Scott Morris was three for three, and Stanley was two for three.
