Mackedanz pars front nine at Koronis Hills |
Junior Mitchell Mackedanz earned medalist honors at a home golf meet last week, shooting an even-par round of 36 on the front nine at Koronis Hills. Mackedanz recorded the best score in the 41-golfer field by three strokes on Tuesday, April 27, and earned medalist honors for the third time this spring. His previous best finish in a conference meet was second last year, when he shot 39 at Wapicada in St. Cloud. Last week, Mackedanz was two-under-par through #7, having birdied #2 and #4, but bogied the last two holes, ending at even-par 36. Sophomore Justin Bork shot 42, tying for seventh at the meet. Seventh grader Zach Fuchs shot 46, and senior Nick Nelson shot 49 to complete the Dogs' team score. The Bulldogs finished fifth out of six teams in the meet, which was extremely close. The top four teams were separated by only two strokes, with Sauk Centre winning the meet with a four-man total of 166. Paynesville finished seven strokes out of first, six out of second, and five out of third at 173. While pleased with the competitiveness of the team this spring, "it is depressing not to take advantage of our home meet," said coach Todd Knudsvig. "Good one by Mitchell though." This week, the Dogs played at Melrose again, in a conference meet, on Tuesday. They will play in a tournament at Benson on Saturday and will play at Long Prairie on Tuesday, May 11.
