The Bulldogs baseball team split two games at a tournament at Big Lake on Saturday, losing 5-2 to Foley and beating Holdingford 4-1. The Bulldogs led 2-0 against Foley before the Falcons scored five runs - four unearned - in the top of the sixth inning. The Falcons had six hits in the inning and were aided by two errors by the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs scored single runs in the second and third innings, but managed only one baserunner in two at bats after Foley took the lead. Senior second baseman Russell Leyendecker fires to first for an out in the Dogs' 10-2 win over Annandale on Friday afternoon. The Dogs rebounded to beat Holdingford with senior Josh Krupke pitching a complete game in his first varsity start. Krupke allowed only one run in the game. "That was fun to see," said coach Brad Skoglund. "We played great defense behind him." Skoglund noted that junior Tyler Kochman made two terrific plays at second base for the Bulldogs. Kochman also had two hits and scored a run for the Bulldogs, as did junior Jordan Haag. Senior Josh Kampsen had two hits in both games on Saturday. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Holdingford. Then, after the Huskers had scored a run, they scored two more in the sixth inning to win 4-1. The Bulldogs are now 4-4 overall for the season. This week, they played at Sauk Centre on Tuesday. They will play at Albany on Thursday, at Maple Lake on Friday, and at St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday, May 6.
