Bulldog golfers victorious at Melrose Invite

Justin golfingThe Bulldogs boys' golf team won their first invitational in years last week, beating host Melrose to claim the title at the Melrose Invite, a nonconference meet on Thursday.

Junior Mitchell Mackedanz and sophomore Justin Bork led the Dogs with two-over-par rounds of 38, tying for medalist honors with a golfer from Melrose.

Sophomore Justin Bork fired round of 38 at Melrose and 39 at Wapicada last week to lead the Bulldogs boys' golf team.

"It has been a long time coming, but the boys' team won an invita-tional," said coach Todd Knudsvig. This is believed to be the Dogs' first invitational victory in at least ten years.

On Thursday, the Dogs edged Melrose by four strokes, 162-166. In addition to Bork and Mackedanz, seventh grader Zach Fuchs shot a 41, and sophomore Ross Barten shot a 45 to complete the Dogs' team score.

This week, the Bulldogs hosted a home conference meet at Koronis Hills on Tuesday. They do not play again until next week. They will play at Melrose again on Tuesday, May 4, in a conference meet.

Wapicada Meet
The Bulldogs finished fifth at a conference meet at Wapicada last week, despite finishing just seven strokes behind the winner, host St. Cloud Cathedral.

Seven strokes separated five teams at the WCC North meet in St. Cloud on Monday, April 19, with Cathedral winning with a four-man total of 161. Albany was next with 164, beating Sauk Centre for second on the third tie-breaker (using all seven scorers). LPGE took fourth at 166, and Paynesville ended up in fifth with 168.

Sophomore Justin Bork led the Dogs with a round of 39, finishing tied for fourth in the meet, two shots behind the medalist.

Junior Mitchell Mackedanz carded a round of 40, the eighth-best round of the day.

Seventh grader Zach Fuchs (44) and junior Cody Flanders (45) completed the Dogs' team score.

"The boys scored pretty well yesterday, but we fell a few strokes off of what we needed for a higher place," said coach Todd Knudsvig.
