Bulldogs shoot sixth at Minnewaska meet |
The Bulldogs boys' golf team took sixth place in a ten-team 18-hole nonconference meet at Minnewaska on Saturday. Alexandria (315) won the meet by 11 strokes over St. Cloud Cathedral (326) with Minnewaska (329) and Ortonville (329) tying for third. Another large school, Detroit Lakes, finished fifth with 346, followed by the Dogs (360), who beat Albany (373) for the second time this spring. Senior Justin Bork led the Dogs by shooting 83, finishing three strokes out of the top four. Abe Donald of Ortonville was the meet medalist with a 72, with the fourth-place finisher shooting 80. Senior Ross Barten shot 87, ninth grader Zach Fuchs shot 94, and sophomore Justin Hansen shot 96 to complete the Dogs' team score. This week, the Dogs hosted their home conference meet on Tuesday. They will also host a home dual meet against ACGC on Friday at Koronis Hills. Next week, the Dogs will travel to conference meets at Minnewaska on Monday, May 1, and at Melrose on Tuesday, May 2.

The Dogs (168) were beaten by one stroke by the Crusaders (167) and the Mainstreeters (167). Minnewaska (153) also edged New London-Spicer (154) by one stroke for the meet team title. Senior Justin Bork fired a round of 39, one of nine golfers to shoot in the 30s at the meet, to lead the Dogs. Minnewaska had four players shoot in the 30s, and NL-S had three. With the meet medalists shooting 37s, Bork finished in a four-way tie for fifth at the meet. Ninth grader Zach Fuchs (40) finished in a four-way tie for tenth at the meet, just missing shooting in the 30s, and senior Ross Barten carded a 41, finishing in an eight-way tie for 14th. Ninth graders Jeremy Schmidt and Travis Wensmann completed the Dogs' team score (only one of their scores was needed for the Dogs' top four) with 48s.
