Mackedanz takes second at Wapicada |
Sophomore Mitchell Mackedanz placed second, one stroke behind the medalist, at a West Central Conference golf meet last week at the Wapicada Country Club in St. Cloud. Mackedanz shot a four-over-par round of 39 and finished one stroke behind Jeremy Zylla of LPGE, who carded a 38. Adam Utsch of Albany and Jon Krebsbach of Cathedral tied for third with rounds of 40. The meet was held in beautiful sunny weather on Monday, April 14. The Bulldogs, as a team, finished sixth, losing a tiebreaker to Sauk Centre. Both teams had four-golfer totals of 178, but the Streeters' fifth golfer had 50 while Paynesville's fifth and sixth golfers had 56s. The Dogs, though, finished only three strokes away from third place. Four teams - Melrose at 176, Cathedral at 177, Sauk Centre at 178, and Paynesville at 178 - finished within two strokes of each other. "So close," said coach Todd Knudsvig. "Three strokes would have put us at third." Senior Eric Gerding and ninth grader Justin Bork each had rounds of 45 for the Bulldogs, and ninth grader Ross Barten completed the team score with a 49. This week, the Bulldogs hosted a conference meet at Koronis Hills on Tuesday. Next week, they will compete in a conference meet at Melrose.
