Boys take six firsts at NL-S |
The Bulldogs boys' track team captured six individual first places in taking third at the NL-S Invite last week. Senior Lee Fuchs-Thielen led the way by taking first place in three events: the 200-meter dash, the long jump, and the triple jump. He also was fourth in the 100-meter dash. Senior Derek Burris took first in the discus and also was second in the shot put. Sophomore Aaron Bachman won the pole vault, and sophomore Sean Glenz won the 800-meter dash. Runners-up for the Bulldogs, in addition to Burris, were: senior Chad Wyffels in the 400-meter dash and the 3,200-meter relay, including Glenz, junior Jason Wendroth, junior Chris Utsch, and Wyffels. The Bulldogs' 1,600-meter relay team (Glenz, Anthony Benson, Wendroth, and Wyffels) took third, and Bachman also placed third in both hurdle races. As a team, the Dogs finished third in the five-team meet, trailing NL-S and St. Cloud Cathedral but beating MACCRAY and BBE. The Dogs scored 139 points to 184 for NL-S and 150 for Cathedral. Coach Darrel Carstens said, "We had some great performances. Some individuals experimented in new events and did quite well. We are somewhat banged up with injuries but will work through them in time for the big meets to come." The Dogs hosted their first home meet on Tuesday. They will also compete at Willmar on Thursday.
