ACGC edges boys' golf team by four strokes |
The Bulldogs boys' golf team was edged by ACGC in a season-opening dual meet last week but showed substantial improvement in losing by only four strokes. Last year, ACGC beat the Dogs by 78 strokes at an 18-hole tournament in Atwater. On Monday, April 5, the Falcons edged the Dogs 159-163 at a nine-hole meet at Koronis Hills. Junior Mitchell Mackedanz was the medalist at the Dogs' first meet last week, shooting one-under-par 35 on the front nine at Koronis Hills. The Bulldogs were led by junior Mitchell Mackedanz, who earned medalist honors at the meet by shooting a one-under-par round of 35 on the front nine at Koronis Hills. Mackedanz had eight pars and one birdie. He hit his approach shot to a foot on #8 for a tap-in birdie. Mackedanz beat ACGC's Nick Hutchinson for medalist honors by one stroke and Ryan Walsh by two strokes. Hutchinson shot 36, and Walsh shot 37 to lead ACGC. Seventh grader Zach Fuchs shot a round of 42 for Paynesville. Junior Cody Flanders and sophomore Justin Bork completed the Dogs' team score by shooting 43s. Both Fuchs and Flanders are newcomers to the golf team this year. As an opening dual meet, both teams had ten varsity players. Other notable scorers for the Bulldogs were sophomore Ross Barten (46), senior Neil Symanietz (47), and senior Nick Nelson (49), giving the team seven players with rounds under 50. This week, the Bulldogs played in their first conference meet at Sauk Centre on Tuesday, April 13. Next week, they will play in St. Cloud in a conference meet hosted by St. Cloud Cathedral on Monday, April 19.
