Stars eliminated by Spuds | ||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars boysÕ hockey team was eliminated from the section playoffs in the first round by top-seeded Moorhead on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The state-rated Spuds dominated the game, outshooting the Stars 52-5, and winning 12-0. The Spuds scored within the first minute of the game and twice within the first two minutes. In all, they tallied seven scores in the first period, from seven different players. The Spuds added three goals in the second period and two in the third. Scott Bjorkland led the Spuds with five assists, including four in the first period. Eleven players scored goals for Moorhead; P.J. Yarber was the only player to score twice for the Spuds. Sophomore goalie Brett Theisen made 40 saves for the Stars in the face of MoorheadÕs offensive assault. Moorhead was the state runner-up a year ago in Class AA. They also beat the Stars in the first round of playoffs last year 9-0. The Stars finished their 2001-02 season with a record of 5-16-1.
