ACGC tops Bulldogs in overtime | ||||||||||||||
ACGC outscored the Bulldogs girls' basketball team 11-5 in overtime and defeated the Dogs 51-45 on Friday in Grove City. The two teams were tied after regulation 40-40, but the Falcons made a three-pointer, a two-pointer, and six free throws in overtime, while the Dogs had just two field goals and one free throw. The Dogs led 10-7 after the first quarter, 17-16 at halftime, and 30-28 at the end of three quarters. But the Falcons outscored the Dogs 12-10 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Senior guard Kim Hess led the Dogs against ACGC on Friday with 17 points, including four treys. "The girls played so hard but just couldn't make their shots," said coach Jackie Parsley. The Dogs shot 15 of 59 from the floor (25 percent). They did make six three-pointers, led by senior Kim Hess who made four treys and scored 17 points. Hess also grabbed eight rebounds, made four steals, and had three assists. Senior Kendra Johnson added ten points for the Dogs, and senior Brittany Lieser had eight points and ten rebounds. The loss ended the Dogs' regular season with a record of 4-17. The Dogs were scheduled to play at Holdingford on Tuesday, but instead hosted a district playoff game against Kimball. The Dogs were seeded eighth in District 20, and Kimball was seeded ninth. The winner of their Tuesday game will play top-seeded New London-Spicer on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. at NL-S. The district semifinals will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at Dassel-Cokato High School. Complete District 20 seedings were: (1) NL-S; (2) EV-W; (3) Maple Lake; (4) St. Cloud Cathedral; (5) Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted; (6) Zimmerman; (7) St. John's Prep; (8) Paynesville; and (9) Kimball.
