Sartell won the competition with a team score of 142.05. The Sabres will now advance to the state competition as a team.
Sauk Rapids was second with 141.05; New London-Spicer third with 129.075; and Litchfield fourth with 127.10.
Paynesville scored 117.075 as a team for eighth place. The Bulldogs missed sixth place by a little more than half a point. The Dogs missed fifth place by three points.
Morris, who the Bulldogs had beaten previously, was fifth with 120.125, Kimball sixth with 117.625, and Benson seventh with 117.6.
The Bulldogs also were shut out in the individual competition against the strong talent in the section, failing to advance anyone to state.
On the floor exercise, Paynesville had some of their best performances of the year but the competition was fierce. Joy Hemmesch placed 24th, Michelle Wolbeck 32nd, Rachel Koehn 34th, and Amy Mueller 35th.
On the vault, Hemmesch was 17th, Wolbeck 24th, Mueller 29th, and Koehn 35th.
On the balance beam, Hemmesch was 16th, Koehn 26th, Mueller 27th, and Amanda Mayer 28th.
On the uneven bars, Hemmesch was 17th, Mayer 24th, Koehn 33rd, and Christina Hittle 37th.
Paynesville's best finish was Hemmesch in the all-around competition, where she finished 14th.
The top four in each event advanced to state individually. With no one advancing to state, the gymnasts' season came to a close.
