Little Falls rallies to top Stars, 6-3 | ||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team scored three straight goals to take a brief 3-2 lead, but Little Falls rallied to score three unanswered goals later in the second period and won their home Central Lakes Conference game 6-3 on Thursday. After falling behind 2-0, the Stars scored three straight goals to take a short-lived lead. Junior forward Alex Naujokas started the scoring for the Stars with a goal with three seconds left in the first period. Then junior forwards Josh Engquist and Max Lahr scored within a one-minute span just over five minutes into the second period, first tying the game 2-2 and then giving the Stars a 3-2 lead. Little Falls tied the score two minutes later and then went ahead 4-3 with four minutes left in the period. They added a short-handed goal in the last minute of the second period to take a 5-3 lead into the third period. The Flyers scored the only goal midway through the third period, making the final 6-3. Little Falls (8-4-2) is third in the Central Lakes Conference in hockey while the Stars (3-11) are ninth, a half point behind St. Cloud Apollo with the Stars having one conference game left against Sauk Rapids this week. Little Falls also beat the Stars 3-1 in January. The Stars will host Sauk Rapids on Thursday at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond on Thursday. This will be the last regular-season game for the Stars and the last home game for seniors, including Derek Looman and Jamie Paul of Paynesville. Next week, the Stars will start the section playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
