Cold shooting dooms Dogs

On Thursday, Feb. 8, the Bulldogs traveled to Litchfield to take on the Dragons in a conference game. The Bulldogs struggled to score and lost 42-24.

The Dogs started out slow, scoring only four points in the first quarter and falling behind by six. They picked it up a bit in the second quarter, scoring ten points to the Dragons' 15, but trailed by 11 at half.

Both teams had trouble scoring in the third quarter, combining for just six points. The Dogs scored nine points in the fourth quarter, but that wasn't enough to catch the Dragons.

The Bulldogs struggled with their shooting. They shot 20 percent from the field for the game and made only nine field goals. The Dogs were five for eight from the free throw line.

Stacy Lieser led the team with four steals. Steph Krupke led the team with three assists. Heidi Jansen grabbed six rebounds and had two blocks.

The Bulldogs hosted state-rated New London-Spicer on Monday and lost 69-25. They hosted Sauk Centre yesterday.

The girls host Albany on Friday and play at St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

On Friday, the Bulldogs took on the LPGE Thunder in a make-up game. The last time these two teams played the Dogs fell short on a buzzer-beater. The Bulldogs were looking for revenge.

The first quarter didn't look so good for the Bulldogs, who scored only nine points to the Thunders' 15.

The second quarter was different. The Dogs scored an impressive 23 points, but still trailed by one at the half.

The Thunder outscored the Dogs by two points in the second half to leave the Dogs with a close three-point loss, 59-56.

Paynesville's shooting percentage was much better this game, as the Dogs shot 47 percent. The Thunder outscored the Bulldogs 21-10 at the free throw line, providing the winning margin.

Krupke scored 23 points and Lieser had 16 to pace Paynesville. Krupke also led the team with three steals and three assists. Lieser had three steals as well and two blocks.

Crystal Humbert led the team with nine rebounds.
