Freshman Adam Kampsen started the game by nailing a three-pointer, which set the tone for the entire game and the Bulldogs never looked back.
Paynesville went into the halftime break up by 11 points. Coach Steve Little made it clear that 11 points wasn't going to be enough and the Dogs needed to extend the lead in the third quarter.
Paynesville extended their lead to 37-20 at one point, but the Eagles inched back. The Eagles, playing without their leading scorer, poured in 21 points in the fourth quarter and got within four points late in the game.
The Bulldogs kept their heads and made free throws to sink the Eagles and win by six points.
J.T. Koehn (above right) had another great game for the Bulldogs, scoring 21 points, grabbing six rebounds, and blocking three shots.
The Bulldogs play Thursday night at home against Melrose for Parents' Night.
On Monday, they will host New London-Spicer in a make-up game, and on Tuesday they will play at Maple Lake.

The Bulldogs faced the Dragons of Litchfield on Tuesday night for the second time of the year. The state-rated Dragons won the state championship a year ago.
Wes Lieser (left) hit three three-pointers for Paynesville in the first quarter, as the Bulldogs held several early leads. Litchfield ended up scoring 20 points in the first period and kept the lead for the entire game.
Litchfield guard Mike Patton was on fire the entire game, scoring a game high 23 points, hitting four three-pointers, and sinking the Bulldogs' hope of a victory.
Senior J.T. Koehn played well for the Bulldogs, scoring 16 points and blocking five shots. Fellow senior Logan Louis scored 10 points and grabbed three boards from his point guard position.
Paynesville ended up shooting 35 percent from the field while Litchfield shot 56 percent. The Dragons also had 13 offensive rebounds.
