Basketball cheerleaders host cheer competition
The basketball cheerleaders at Paynesville Area High School hosted a cheer competition in the high school gymasium on Saturday afternoon. Lifting Trista Bork during a stunt are (from left): Ashley Hoglund, Rachael Halvorson, and Heidi Steinhofer.
The competition attracted 17 teams and more than 200 cheerleaders from as close as New London-Spicer and as far as the Twin Cities. The cheerleaders from Marshall took first place in three of the nine categories. The cheerleaders from NL-S took first in two categories.
Paynesville's basketball cheerleaders took seconds in cheer chant (no stunt) and in the sideline floor cheer, where they lost to NL-S by only three points.
