By Michael Jacobson

The River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with Sartell on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Richmond.

The Stars took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by senior Andrew Schmitt, assisted by senior Derek Dahlen, but the Sabres scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead.

The Stars earned a tie in the third period thanks to three goals from the line of sophomore Mike Anderson, junior Kyle Curran, and ninth grader Andy Schramel.

The Stars first tied the score with goals by Anderson and junior Kyle Curran within the first seven minutes of the final period, but the Sabres scored 90 seconds later to retake a 4-3 lead. Anderson scored again with nearly six minutes to play to knot the score again at 4-4.

Schramel assisted on all three of the Stars' goals in the final period.

The Stars were outshot 43-20, but sophomore goalie Blake Theisen made 39 saves for River Lakes.

This week, the Stars will host Sauk Centre at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond on Thursday, will play at Minneapolis Edison on Saturday, and will host Becker/Big Lake in Richmond again on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
