Stars end regular season with win, tie | ||||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team beat Alexandria for the second time this season in their last game of the regular season on Thursday. The Stars beat Alex 1-0 in Paynesville in December and beat them 2-0 last week in Alexandria. Junior goaltender Trisha Wendlandt recorded her second shutout of the season, making 16 saves. Wendlandt had both of her shutouts against Alexandria. The Stars outshot Alexandria 25-16. Ninth grader Ashley Aretz scored a goal for the Stars in the first period, and senior Marya Losinski scored their other goal in the second period for the Stars. The Stars finished the regular season with a record of 8-12-2. They will start the section playoffs on Friday, Feb. 7. The site was unavailable at press time. If they win, they would play in the section quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The Stars finished the season with a win and a tie against Benson. They had previously beaten Benson 1-0 in Richmond in December. Sophomore Allie Stalboerger scored the first goal of the game in the second period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. But in the third period, Benson scored two goals to take a 2-1 lead. Then, with less than three minutes left in the game, junior Marena Lewis scored the tying goal for the Stars. Neither team was able to score in overtime. In goal, Wendlandt made 22 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 24-22.
