Morris/Benson gets revenge against Stars | ||||||||||
Morris/Benson scored two goals in the third period to gain revenge against the River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team with a 6-4 victory last week. The Stars had beaten Morris/Benson 3-2 earlier in January, but this time their early lead evaporated and they lost. Senior center Kyle Curran scored less than a minute into the game to give the Stars an early lead. Ten minutes later, sophomore forward Andy Schramel added a goal to make the lead 2-0. But Morris/ Benson scored a power play goal with less than a minute left in the period to cut the lead to 2-1. Two minutes into the second period, junior wing Phil Theisen scored for the Stars to give them a 3-1 lead. But Morris/Benson got the next two goals to tie the game 3-3. Later in the same period, Curran scored again to give the Stars a brief lead, but Morris/Benson tied the score again with two minutes left in the period and scored two goals midway through the third period to win 6-4. Curran had two goals for the Stars, and junior wing Mike Anderson had three assists. Schramel had a goal and an assist. In net, senior Justin Hartfiel made 24 saves, allowing four goals, and junior Blake Theisen made seven saves and allowed two goals. The Stars outshot Morris/Benson 40-37. This week, the Stars played at Minneapolis Edison on Tuesday. Their game against Sauk Centre, scheduled for Thursday, has been cancelled. They will play next at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Thursday, Feb. 13.
