Benson tops Paynesville's gymnasts | ||||
The Bulldogs gymnastics team lost to a strong team from Benson in a home meet on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Benson outscored Paynesville 135.30 to 115.75. Paynesville scored a season high with 115.75 points, topping the 115.175 they scored against Melrose earlier in January.
Junior Abby Lindeman competed in the varsity all around for the first time last week. Being in the all around means competing on all four individual events: balance beam, floor exercise, uneven bars, and vault. Other notable gymnasts were ninth grader Brittney Spanier, who performed a new, more difficult vault - handspring full - and recorded her highest score of the season. And junior Abby Lindeman competed in the varsity all around for the first time. The Bulldogs had too many falls on the balance beam, according to coach Deb Nehowig, who noted that eighth grader Christine Spanier was the only Paynesville gymnast to have a no-fall routine on beam. This week, the Dogs competed at Annandale on Tuesday. They will travel to Ortonville on Friday, and next week they will travel to Litchfield on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
