Big third period leads to Stars' loss | ||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team lost to Benson/Morris 7-1 on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond. Benson/Morris broke the game open with four goals in the third period and avenged a 3-1 loss to the Stars earlier in January. Sophomore center Jamie Paul scored the Stars' only goal a minute into the third period, cutting Benson/Morris's lead to 3-1. But Benson/Morris scored four goals over the last 12 minutes of the game, turning that 3-1 lead into a 7-1 win. The Stars were outshot only by two, 36-34, but Benson/Morris goalie Justin Finke stopped 33 of the 34 shots that he faced. Center John Wittenberg scored four goals for Benson/Morris. The loss dropped the Stars' record to 8-9 for the season. This week, the Stars hosted Holy Family Catholic on Tuesday. Next week, they will host Sartell at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
