Dogs drop games to NL-S, Melrose

By Michael Jacobson

New London-Spicer held the Dogs to 10 points in the first half and 27 points for the game, as they defeated the Bulldogs girls' basketball team 54-27 on Friday night.

The Wildcats, who moved to the north half of the West Central Conference this year, completed a season sweep of the Dogs. The Cats (8-2) are in second place in the WCC North while the Dogs fell to 3-8.

New London-Spicer outscored the Dogs 27-10 in the first half, holding the Dogs to four buckets (including a three-pointer) and a free throw. The Dogs made six hoops in the second half and also got to the free throw line seven times (making three), scoring 17 points in the half.

"We got outrebounded," said coach Jackie Parsley. "They were more aggressive on both ends of the court than we were."

Posts Renae Henjum and Jenn Wendlandt combined to score 26 points for NL-S.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Ashley Lieser, sophomore Brittni Schmitz, and senior Brooke Schmitz, all with seven points each.

The Dogs (5-10) played at BBE on Monday night. They do not play again until next week, when they will travel to Long Prairie on Tuesday, Feb. 7, to play LPGE.
