Trailing 4-3 to Minnewaska, the Bulldogs pinned their Laker opponents in six of the next seven weights to earn 36 team points.
The match sped along as five of these pins were recorded in the first period. The other pin lasted just 25 seconds into the second, and Paynesville's only loss in that stretch was by forfeit.
The string of pins started with Nathan Glenz at 119 and continued with Jeremy Sogge at 125, David Kerzman at 130, Jeremy Fuchs at 135, Joe Hiltner at 145, and Ryan Glenz at 152.
Paynesville's only other victory was a decision by Adam Christian at 112. Max Meagher and Josh Kerzman lost tight matches in overtime at 160 and 171 respectively.
The Bulldogs travel to Canby to face their annual foe on Thursday. The junior varsity is scheduled to start a half hour earlier than normal, at 6 p.m., so the varsity should get under way early.
Next Saturday, the Bulldogs will host eight teams at the Paynesville Duals. The format will be a three-dual match tournament for both the varsity and junior varsity. Seeding will be done at 9 a.m., with the first round of junior varsity matches starting at 9:30 a.m. The first round of varsity matches will follow that.
The rest of the tournament will continue with that pattern, with a junior varsity round followed by a varsity round. Teams scheduled to participate are: Buffalo, Dawson-Boyd, Milaca, Paynesville, Perham, Renville County West, Sauk Centre, and Simley.

The varsity wrestling team ran their winning streak to 10 matches with a sweep at the Pierz Quadrangular on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The Bulldogs topped Meadow Creek Alliance Academy 47-20, Braham 48-19, and Pierz 35-21. Last year, Pierz defeated Paynesville in their dual at the quadrangular 30-29, but the Bulldogs reversed the result when it counted, winning the section final 39-24 on their way to a fourth state title.
This time around, the Bulldogs broke a 6-6 tie by getting 23 points at the four weights from 130 to 145. Jeremy Sogge and David Kerzman pinned their opponents at 130 and 135 respectively, Jeremy Fuchs won a 21-6 technical fall at 140, and Joe Hiltner won by forfeit at 145 for a 29-6 advantage.
Pierz won four of the last five matches, but three were decisions by two points or less. Pierz's only pin was offset by Paynesville's Max Meagher, who pinned his foe in the first period at 160.
Adam Christian at 112 and Pat Noonan at 119 provided early decisions for Paynesville against Pierz.
Meadow Creek won the first three weights against Paynesville and led 10-0. Paynesville came roaring back, though, winning the next seven matches. Six were by pin.
Nathan Glenz started the run with a second-period pin. Sogge, Fuchs, Hiltner, Josh Schreifels, and Meagher all needed less than two minutes to record a pin. Kerzman won by technical fall.
The Bulldogs didn't win a decision against Meadow Creek. Their other points came on a forfeit.
Paynesville had five pins among their nine victories against Braham. Sean Glenz and Adam Christian started the contest with pins at 103 and 112. Sogge, Kerzman, and Ryan Glenz added pins to the Bulldogs' cause.
Fuchs and Meagher won by technical fall, and Nathan Glenz and Hiltner won with major decisions.
Coach Virg Vagle credited the Bulldogs' winning ways to overall improvement by the wrestlers. "During this last stretch, we've shown better team balance," he said.
At the start of the year, the Bulldogs depended heavily on its most experi-enced wrestlers. "Now we've got another four or five guys that are really stepping up," he added.
