River Lakes rips Litch/D-C

The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team defeated Litchfield/ Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday, Jan. 20, evening their season record.

Sophomore forwards Amber Schulzetenberge and Allie Stalboer-ger combined for six goals and nine points for the Stars. Schulzetenberge scored four goals and also recorded an assist. Stalboerger scored two goals and had two assists.

Also scoring goals for the Stars were sophomores Ashley Aretz and Anna Olson. Olson also had an assist for a two-point game.

With the victory over Litchfield/ Dassel-Cokato - who have only one win this season - the Stars raised their record to 7-7-1.

This week, the Stars played Willmar on Tuesday. They will play at Sartell on Thursday. Next week, they will play against Benson/ Morris at Morris on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Icebreakers 4, Stars 3 (OT)
The Stars rallied to force overtime but lost 4-3 to the St. Cloud Icebreakers on Thursday.

After skating to a 1-1 tie in the first period, the Icebreakers scored two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, but the Stars tied the game in the third period. Eighth grader Abbie Rhoda scored in the last minute of regulation time to tie the game at 3-3.

Earlier in the period, sophomore Allie Stalboerger had scored to cut the Icebreaker's lead to 3-2.

But the Icebreakers scored five minutes into overtime to win the game 4-3.

Sophomore Amber Schulzeten-berge scored the Stars' first goal in the first period, tying the game 1-1.

Senior goalie Trisha Wendlandt made 26 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 30-13.

With the loss, the Stars dropped their overall record to 7-8-1. The Stars are 3-6-1 in the Central Lakes Conference.
