Senior forward Brad Koltes works for a face off in front of goalie Blake Theisen for River Lakes.
The first game was against Sauk Centre on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and the second was against Benson on Friday. Both were home games, but the Sauk Centre game was played in Richmond, and the Benson game was played in Paynesville.
The Stars knew they were going to have to fight for the Sauk Centre game. Sauk Centre, as of the time the Stars played them, were 10-1-1 for the season. The first period was good for the Stars, with the Mainstreeters only scoring one goal.
The Stars scored first in the second period with a goal by A.J. Bohlman, to tie the score at 1-1.
Unfortunately, that was all the scoring that would be done for the Stars. The Mainstreeters went on to score two goals in the second period, and four in the third to win the game, 7-1.
Tempers ended up getting a little hot at the end of the game, and the Stars collected 22 minutes in penalties as a result.
The Stars' went on the road yesterday against Litchfield, but they will play in Paynesville this Saturday against Marshall.

Benson 6
River Lakes 3
The Stars had defeated Benson earlier this year in a holiday tournament in Little Falls, but this time Benson scored four times in the second to win 6-3.
After a scoreless first period, the Braves caught the Stars sleeping as they scored four goals in the second period. Benson's John Whittenberg and Mike Flaton each scored twice in the second period.
The Stars' only goal in the second was scored by Mike Heinen.
The third period went a little better for the Stars, but not well enough to change the game. Each time the Stars scored a goal to cut into the lead, Benson responded with a goal of their own. The Stars got goals from Brett Theisen, and then Kyle Curran.
Whittenberg scored another goal to complete his hat trick in the third. He also had an assist. Flaton finished two goals and three assists.
Theisen led the scoring for the Stars with a goal and an assist.
