River Lakes beats Pequot Lakes again | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team won their fourth game of the year on Saturday, beating Pequot Lakes for the second time this winter, this time 5-1 in Pequot Lakes. The Stars also beat Pequot Lakes 4-3 in December. The Stars jumped to the lead a minute into the game when junior center Kyle Curran scored. The Stars subsequently led 2-0 after one period, 3-0 after two, and 5-0 before allowing a late goal to Pequot Lakes. Senior forward Mike Heinen led the Stars with two goals and an assist. Senior Chris Brinkman added two assists. Also scoring for the Stars were sophomore Mike Anderson and junior Nick Plumhoff. The win improved the Stars' record to 4-10. This week, the Stars hosted Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville Township. They will play next against Benson on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond.

Benson/Morris 3 Jake Beaurogard made 28 saves for Benson/Morris. The only Star to beat him was junior center Kyle Curran, who found the back of the net twice. His goal four minutes into the first period gave the Stars a 1-0 lead. But Benson/Morris tied the score with a goal with two minutes left in the period and took the lead with two goals in the second period. Curran scored a short-handed goal with just over two minutes to play, but Benson/Morris escaped with a 3-2 win.

Sauk Centre/Melrose 6 Junior goalie Justin Hartfiel made 30 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 36-14.
