Last-minute goal lifts River Lakes to 3-2 victory | ||||||||||
Junior wing Mike Anderson scored with less than a minute to play to give the River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team a 3-2 victory at Benson/Morris on Thursday. Anderson scored a power play goal with 50 seconds to play in the third period to break a 2-2 tie. He was assisted by senior center Kyle Curran and sophomore forward Andy Schramel. The Stars had taken a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by sophomore forward Ryan Weber. After Benson/Morris scored later in the first period to tie the game at 1-1, the Stars scored the only goal in the second period to lead 2-1. Benson/Morris tied the game at 2-2 with less than four minutes to play, but Anderson's goal lifted the Stars to their fourth victory of the season. The Stars are now 4-10-1. The Stars' game against Sauk Centre, scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14, was cancelled. This week, the Stars hosted Willmar at Paynesville on Tuesday. They will play Sartell at the National Sports Center in St. Cloud on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and they will host Benson/Morris on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Koronis Civic Arena.
