The cheerleaders brought home the trophy for the top cheerleading squad at the tournament.
Cindy Fuchs, wrestling cheerleader advisor, said they were really shocked to win the trophy.
“As far as I’m aware, this is the first time a cheerleading squad from Paynesville has won any trophies,” Fuchs said.
The girls were judged on their overall performance, stunts, cheers, appearance, and sportsmanship in relation to the other cheerleaders.
There were 10 cheerleading teams at the wrestling competition.
“This was really exciting for the girls. We never dreamed we would win anything,” Fuchs added.
The squad consists of two seniors and four freshmen girls. Julie Glenz (front left) is a fourth-year cheerleader and Jesse Hennen( front right) a second-year cheerleader. This is the first year of cheering for the freshmen girls: (back L to R) Stephanie Thomsen, Naomi Bork, Carrie Nistler, and Mesa Frenchick.
The cheerleading squads will be hosting a cheerleading clinic for elementary students Jan. 26 through 29 at the elementary school gym. The clinic participants will perform at the Paynesville Duals on Jan. 30
