Stars shut out Little Falls, 4-0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team played St. Cloud Tech at St. Cloud on Tuesday, Jan 7. After losing to Tech 9-1 in the first game of the season in November, the Stars came a long way, only losing 4-2 this time. The Stars took a 1-0 lead in the first period, but St. Cloud Tech tied the score 1-1 and then scored two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. St. Cloud Tech led 4-1 before the Stars scored the final goal of the game. Junior Kayla Nepsund of Rocori heads up the ice with the puck for the Stars last week during their 4-0 victory against Little Falls. Senior Marya Losinski scored both of the goals for the Stars. Junior goaltender Trisha Wendlandt made 33 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 37-10. This week, the Stars host St. Cloud Apollo in Richmond on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m. They will play at Willmar on Tuesday, Jan. 21, also at 7:30 p.m.

It was a good outcome for the Stars, who beat Little Falls for the second time this season. The Stars got the win on parent's night. The Stars took a 3-0 lead in the first period, with goals by ninth grader Amber Schultzenberge, senior Marya Losinski, and sophomore Janile Lewis. Losinski scored again in the third period for the final margin. Senior Crystal Songetay made 15 saves in goal for her second shutout of the season. The Stars outshot Little Falls 48-15. The Stars' record now stands at 6-9-1 for the season.
