Alex, Brainerd top Stars | ||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team lost twice last week at home to Central Lakes Conference powers Alexandria and Brainerd. The Stars lost 7-0 to Alex on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville and 6-1 to Brainerd on Thursday, Jan. 8, in Richmond. Senior Blake Theisen made 84 saves in two games last week as the Stars lost to conference powers Alexandria and Brainerd. Brainerd broke open the game at the River Lakes Arena with five goals in the second period, building a 6-0 lead after two periods. Junior wing Andy Schramel scored the lone goal for the Stars in the third period, assisted by junior Nick Dahlen. Senior goalie Blake Theisen made 44 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 50-26 by Brainerd. Alexandria scored less than two minutes into the game and led throughout at the Koronis Civic Arena, scoring three goals in the first period and three more in the second period. Alex outshot the Stars 47-20. Theisen made 40 saves for the Stars, whose record fell to 6-6 with the two conference losses last week. This week, the Stars played at Sauk Centre on Tuesday, Jan. 13. They wil l play at Benson/Morris on Thursday, Jan. 15, and at Sauk Rapids on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
