Gymnasts beat St. James at home meet, 115.1-109.7 |
The Bulldogs outscored St. James on all four apparatuses and defeated the visiting Saints 115.1-109.65 on Friday at the Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds. The Dogs outscored St. James 31.5 to 31.05 on the vault, 29.325 to 28.2 on the floor exercise, 27.75 to 25.15 on the balance beam, and 25.525 to 25.25 on the uneven bars. Sophomore Kacy Nehowig and eighth grader Anna Kotten finished 1-2 on the balance beam, vault, and uneven bars to lead the Dogs. Nehowig was also first on the floor exercise and in the all around, while Kotten was third on the floor and second in the all around, topping 30 again. Eighth grader Anna Kotten topped 30 points in the all around in two meets last week, taking second against St. James and fourth against Litch. In addition to Nehowig and Kotten, ninth grader Cassey Lund placed fourth on the vault with a personal best of 8.0. Senior Kayla Nelson was fourth on the balance beam, performing a no-fall routine along with Nehowig and Kotten. And sophomore Brittney Spanier was fifth on the vault. This week, the Dogs hosted Howard Lake-Waverly on Tuesday. They will travel to state-rated Melrose on Thursday and will travel to New London-Spicer on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Litchfield 129.15 Averaging 115 was one of the team goals this year, and the Dogs (4-6) accomplished this goal again against the Dragons. Nehowig won the all-around competition, scoring 32.8. She was second on the bars, floor, and vault, and third on the beam. Kotten was the only other varsity gymnast to place, taking third on the vault, fifth on the floor, and fourth in the all around.
