The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team lost to St. Cloud Tech 9-3 on Thursday in St. Cloud. The Tigers took a 5-0 lead, scoring three goals in the first period and two more to start the second period. The Stars outscored St. Cloud Tech 3-2 over the last half of the second period to cut the Tigers' lead to 7-3, but Tech scored the only two goals in the third period to win 9-3. The Stars (4-12) got goals from ninth grade forward Abbie Rhoda, from junior forward Amber Schul-zetenberge, and from junior defenseman Marie Omann in the second period. St. Cloud Tech, which also beat the Stars 7-4 in November, outshot the Stars 32-20 last week. This week, the Stars hosted Little Falls in Richmond on Tuesday. They will travel to Litchfield on Thursday and will host St. Cloud Apollo at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond next Tuesday.
Scoring Summary
Brainerd 5 The Stars had led 3-1 before a four-goal spurt by Brainerd. The Warriors scored the last two goals of the second period and the first two goals of the third period to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead. Junior center Allie Stalboerger scored a goal with 24 seconds left for the Stars, making the final 5-4. It was her second goal of the game and her third point. Seventh grader Jenn Paul and junior Marie Omann scored for the Stars in the first period as they took a 2-1 lead. Stalboerger scored in the first minute of the second period to increase that lead to 3-1.
