River Lakes falls twice last week | ||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team dropped conference games last week to St. Cloud Tech 3-1 and to Brainerd 5-1. The Stars fell behind St. Cloud Tech 2-0 in the first period, despite outshooting the Tigers 13-9, on Thursday, Jan. 5, at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond. Tech added a goal late in the second period to take a 3-0 lead. The Stars finally got on the scoreboard late in the third period, with six minutes to play, when sophomore Kenzie Novak scored, assisted by sophomore Greta Omann. The Stars lost 3-1 despite having the same number of shots on goal (24) as the Tigers. This week, the Stars (6-9-2) played at Little Falls on Tuesday. They will host St. Michael-Albertville at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Next week, they will play at St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Brainerd 5, River Lakes 1 Brainerd defeated the Stars 5-1 on Tuesday, Jan. 3, in a Central Lakes Conference game at Brainerd. Senior Amber Schulzetenberge scored a short-handed goal for the Stars' only tally. No other stats were available.
