Bullettes open season at RCW on Saturday |
The Paynesville Bullettes - the varsity danceline at PAHS - opened their competitive season on Saturday at Renville County West but did not place. New Ulm Cathedral took first place, followed by Yellow Medicine East, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, Renville County West, Watertown-Mayer, and Paynesville. "Though they missed placing, the team pulled together the toughest routine done by Paynesville in recent years," said co-coach Jeanne Virant (who coaches the team along with Barb Werlinger). "The coaches feel the routine is well constructed and the team has a lot of potential that will just take more time to develop. Almost half the team has been dancing only eight weeks. It is going to take time to perform to the level of large teams with junior varsity feeder programs." Paynesville only has a varsity danceline program. This year, 16 girls comprise the Bullettes: seniors Katie Bertram, Kelly Herzberg, Melanie Mages, LeAnn Nepsund, Megan Reeck (captain), Amanda Skalicky (captain), Kacie Wander, and Lindsey Wyffels; juniors Tawny Bengtson and Amanda Lieser; sophomores Sue Albrecht, Bre Engler, Casandra Hoekstra, Kim Magedanz, and Ashley Ogdahl; and ninth grader Kaitlin Burlingame. The Bullettes will perform at halftime of the boys' basketball game on Tuesday night. Their next competition will be at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph on Saturday, Jan. 21, beginning at 12 noon.
