Stars drop three games | ||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team lost three games last week, dropping Central Lakes Conference games to Brainerd 9-1 and to St. Cloud Tech 7-2 and losing a nonconference game to Bemidji 5-1. Senior defenseman Zach Johnson scored three minutes into the game for the Stars, giving them a 1-0 lead. But Brainerd answered with four goals in the first period and scored nine unanswered goals to win 9-1. Brainerd scored less than three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1, and they scored two goals within 40 seconds midway through the period to take a 3-1 lead, and added a goal in the last minute to go ahead 4-1. They added a goal in the second period and four in the third period, including three power-play goals, winning 9-1. The Stars (4-11) hosted Little Falls in Paynesville on Tuesday night. They will play at Sauk Rapids on Thursday and will host St. Cloud Apollo at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

After Naujokas tied the Central Lakes Conference game with a first-period goal, the Tigers scored six straight goals, building a 7-1 lead before Naujokas scored again late in the third period, making the final score 7-2. The Tigers outshot the Stars 37-14.
