Bulldogs rally in fourth to win third straight game | ||||||||||||
The lady Bulldogs kept their winning streak alive by crushing Pine River-Backus 60-46. The Dogs broke open a close game by scoring the last 12 points in the fourth quarter. Leading 48-46 with three and a half minutes to play, they completely shut down the Tigers, holding them scoreless for the rest of the game. Senior Danny Lieser led the offense during that period, making two three-pointers and scoring nine points in the last half of the fourth quarter. Sophomore guard Kim Hess helped the Bulldogs in their win on Friday night over Pine River by scoring 13 points with six assists and four steals. Earlier in the fourth quarter senior Ann Stalboerger made a key three-pointer after the Tigers had briefly taken a 43-42 lead, their first lead since the second quarter. Having two weeks of vacation, the Dogs were quite rusty in the first half but came back after the half and dominated the Tigers with their full court zone press. "We came out slow, but as the game progressed we were able to shake off the rust. By the end of the game we were playing well together," said Coach Ric Koehn. The Bulldogs had their best shooting percentage from the field all year, with 42 percent, according to Coach Koehn. Leading the team offensively was Lieser, who ended the game with 16 points. Close behind her was junior Amanda Glenz, who had another double-double, netting 14 points and grabbing 10 boards with eight blocks. Sophomore Kim Hess scored 13 and dished out six assists. Stalboerger also contributed by dishing out eight assists. The Bulldogs are 3-5 overall and hope to pick up two more wins this week. They played Dassel-Cokato at home last night, and will play Sauk Centre at home on Thursday.
