Military families sought for program |
The American Legion is reviving its Blue Star Service Banner program to honor members of America's armed forces. The program was started in World War I and used druing World War II to show patriotism. Every family who has a relative serving in the military can receive a blue banner to display and show the family's national pride. The program demonstrates to all Americans how many families have a stake in the war against terrorism, stressed Larry Alstead, Paynesville American Legion commander. The local American Legion is taking up a challenge issued by the national commander and is looking for the names of area men and women in the armed forces. The Legion will provide a blue banner at not cost to each family. Families who would like to have a banner should call the Paynesville American Legion at 320-243-4982 or Alstead at 320-243-3853.
