School board covers light agenda |
The Paynesville Area School Board took the following actions at their meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25. *The board met for 75 minutes in closed session to discuss a personnel issue. *The board approved $25,000 for staff development for the 2005-06 school year. With carryover dollars, the district has $32,637 in its staff development fund. *The board approved an agreement to rent the gymnasium at the Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds for gymnastics practices and meets. Rent for the gymnasium is $30 per day with a $500 deposit. New this year is a $30 custodial fee for clean-up after meets and a $10 fee if the equipment is not stacked after practice. The district plans to levy for this expense for the first time this year, rather than splitting the cost with the gymnastics team. *The board approved a staff development grant of $300 for paraprofessional training at the middle and high school. The money, along with $400 from the West Central Education District, will pay for half-hour meetings once a month between the paraprofessionals and the teaching staff. The goal, said board member Deb Glenz, who serves on the staff development committee, is to implement true inclusion of special needs students in mainstream classrooms. *The board approved guidelines for FFA students to earn a letter. Students can earn points towards a letter based on their class grades, ag work experience, club leadership and participation, contest events, fundraising efforts, and other school and community activity.
