CFO starts work at PAHCS |
Kirk Johnson joined the Paynesville Area Health Care System as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in mid-August. Johnson, who grew up in Fargo and earned an undergraduate degree in health care administration at Concordia College in Moorhead, spent five years as the administrator at Oakes Community Hospital in North Dakota and six years as the Chief Financial Officer for the Osceola Medical Center in Wisconsin. Osceola had a similar, though smaller, operation to PAHCS, with a 25-bed hospital, a 40-bed long-term-care facility, and a clinic with a partnership with physicians. Johnson, who earned an MBA with health care emphasis in July, is looking forward to the challenge of working for a bigger organization, especially one that has expanded greatly in recent years. Johnson joins PAHCS in time to work on the budget for the next fiscal year, which starts in October. After that, PAHCS will do its annual audit. In addition, PAHCS is going to apply for critical-access designation, something with which Johnson is familiar, since the Osceola Medical Center had that designation. As CFO, Johnson will oversee the business office, medical records, information technology, and accounting/finance. In all two dozen employees are under his supervision, needed to bill nearly $32 million in patient charges this fiscal year. Johnson will also serve on the six-member executive council for PAHCS. Johnson and his wife, Teri, have moved to Paynesville with their two children: Keaton, 5, who just started kindergarten, and Kassidy, 2. In his free time, Johnson likes to fish, hunt, play golf and basketball, and watch sports.
