The statewide primary will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, with voting hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at respective polling places. (See list on page 7.) In the Paynesville area, no contested primaries were known. House of Representatives seats on both the state and federal level are up for election in November. In Congressional races, incumbent Mark Kennedy (R-Watertown) faces DFL challenger Patty Wetterling (St. Joseph) in the Sixth District, and incumbent Collin Peterson (DFL-Detroit Lakes) faces Repub-lican challenger David Sturrock. In state races, in District 13A, incumbent Bud Heidgerken (R-Freeport) faces DFL challenger Bruce Schuck (Sunburg); in District 14B, an open seat, Republican Jim DeRose (Richmond) faces DFLer Larry Hosch (St. Joseph); and in District 18B, incumbent Dean Urdahl (Grove City) faces DFL challenger David Detert (Litchfield).
