Paynesville Press - August 22, 2001
Weekend traffic study held on 23 |
An origin-destination study of traffic on Highway 23 through Paynesville started last Sunday afternoon and will be completed on Sunday, Aug. 26. The origin-destination survey aims to find the starting point, end destination, and purpose of the trip. Drivers not from Paynesville will also be asked if they made a stop in town. The survey is being done by the engineering firm of Edwards and Kelcey for the Minnesota Depart-ment of Transportation. MnDOT is studying traffic patterns and counts along Highway 23 to see what improvements Ð possibly a bypass or a four-lane highway Ð are needed. Last Sunday afternoon, survey teams stopped west-bound traffic on the west end of Paynesville. This Sunday afternoon, Aug. 26, east-bound traffic will be stopped on the east end of town, weather permitting, said Bob Sands of Edwards and Kelcey. Drivers will be asked the origin of their trip, the destination, the purpose, and whether they stopped in Paynesville. The interview takes only a matter of seconds, said Sands. Edwards and Kelcey plans to do a weekday origin-destination survey in September. The entire study of Highway 23 is expected to be done in July 2003.
