Roscoe Fun Day is Sunday, Aug. 12 |
Roscoe will celebrate its 26th annual community celebration, Roscoe Fun Day, on Sunday, Aug. 12, starting at 9 a.m. The festival will include a volleyball tournament, a parade, games, karaoke, and live music. Sixteen teams are registered thus far for the volleyball tournament at the ball park. Anyone interested in entering a team should contact Art Schlangen at 320-597-3591. They have room for more teams. Grand marshals for the parade are long-time Roscoe residents Art and Lucille Ley. LeRoy Schlangen, one of the organizers of Fun Day this year, said the Leys were selected because of their volunteer work in the community and church. The parade will start at 12:30 p.m. on the east edge of town on First Street. It will proceed to Main Street and turn north, make a loop, and head back to where it started on First Street. Anyone interested in having a unit in the parade should contact either Sandy Leyendecker at 320-243-9995 or Schlangen at 320-597-2080. Numerous games will be available at the park following the parade. Al Godage and Sundance will perform from 1 to 5 p.m. at the park, and Heartland Entertainment will lead karaoke from 5 to 7 p.m. A raffle at 7 p.m. will conclude the festival. For several years a two-day festival was conducted, including last year, in honor of the 25th anniversary. This year, though, only a one-day celebration will be held.
