Girl Scouts attend day camp |
Members of Girl Scout Service Unit 26 from Paynesville attended day camp on the shores of Long Lake in Hawick last week. While at day camp, the scouts participated in typical camp activities like crafts, swimming, boating, and toasting marshmallows over a campfire. One new activity was participating in the Minnesota DNR's Minneaqua program, a program that helps people learn about lake and stream ecology by teaching them how to fish. In addition to learning about how to keep lakes and streams safe from pollution and about the aquatic food chain, the scouts also learned how to wear a life preserver before enjoying an afternoon of fishing from the shore. This was the second year the Paynesville troop held day camp at Long Lake.
