Work on Highway 55 to start this week

detour mapWeather permitting, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) plans to start work on Highway 55 between Paynesville and Eden Valley today (Wednesday, July 31).

Work along the highway, according to Jim Christensen, MnDOT project supervisor, includes concrete rehabilitation, culvert repairs, and adding bituminous shoulders.

Work will start just east of the five-mile bridge and continue to the junction with Highway 22 in Eden Valley. (The section of Highway 55 from Paynesville to the five-mile bridge was redone last summer.)

A detour will be in place for the project. Traffic (heading east from Paynesville) will be detoured south along Highway 4 to County Road 3, which will take motorists through Manannah. Then the detour will connect with Highway 22 and return motorists to Highway 55 in Eden Valley.

The detour adds approximately 10 miles.

The prime contractor for the $798,000 project is Midwest Concrete Specialties, Inc., of Rosemount, Minn.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in early September.
