Haagenson resigns from school board |
In addition to four school board seats up for election in November, there is an immediate vacancy on the board. After serving 18 months of a four-year term, Lowell Haagenson resigned his position, effective Tuesday, July 5. Superintendent Todd Burlingame suggested finding a former school board member to fill the position and asked the school board for recommendations at the board meeting on Tuesday, July 12. The board has 90 days to appoint someone for the remainder of his term, which runs through December 2007. Candidates could be discussed and an appointment could be made as early as the next board meeting, on Tuesday, July 26. Haagenson served on the school board from 1995 to 1999, when he also resigned, decided to run again in 2003, and was elected to a four-year term starting in January 2004. Beyond this vacant position, four spots on the board are up for election in November, which means there could be up to five new members of the board. Filings for those positions - currently held by board members Mark Dingmann, Deb Glenz, Allen Schmidt, and Tami Stanger - opened on Tuesday, July 5, and closed on Tuesday, July 19. The names of those who filed for the positions will be run in next week's Press, and elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
